Toews Welcomes Proposed Public Service Changes to Support Military Families
Ottawa, ON - Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and MP for Provencher welcomed proposed regulations allowing surviving spouses or common-law partners of persons employed in the public service, members of the Canadian Forces and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to have priority for externally advertised public service positions.
“Our nation has always been proud of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Historically, the spouses of those who sacrificed their lives in both World Wars, as well as Korea were given priority placement in the Public Service. This is a logical extension of that policy and I’m very pleased that military families may soon have some additional support,” said Toews.
The new regulations were gazetted by the Public Service Commission last week, as per their authority under the Public Service Employment Act.
“Military families have always been a priority for our government, and anything that helps deal with any injury or loss is the least we can do for our men and women in uniform,” concluded Toews.
